Personal hygiene is an practice for maintaining physical and mental health. Over time, our habits have changed, adapting to new knowledge, technologies, and lifestyles. In this blog, we will explore how personal hygiene has evolved, what practices we use today, and how they might transform in the future.

Why is hygiene important?

Hygiene is a vital habit in keeping us healthy. We wash our hands and shower regularly to prevent illness and feel confident in our daily lives.

Some people didn’t know how important hygiene was. Many communities lacked access to clean water, and diseases spread easily because basic habits like handwashing were rare.

Hygiene is essential for both physical and mental health. Keeping our bodies clean helps prevent infections, illnesses, and the spread of harmful germs. It also improves our self-esteem, helps us feel more confident, and shows respect for ourselves and others.

Here are some key reasons why hygiene matters:

  •  Health protection: Good hygiene reduces the risk of diseases like flu, food poisoning, and skin infections.
  •  Mental well-being: Cleanliness helps us feel fresh, organized, and emotionally balanced.
  •  Social acceptance: People are more comfortable around others who maintain good hygiene. It supports positive relationships.
  •  Daily comfort: Clean skin, teeth, and clothes help us feel better throughout the day.
  •  Respect for others: Hygiene prevents spreading germs to family, classmates, or coworkers

Taking a bath is a great personal hygiene habit

Other healthy habits

We have become familiar with reports on the increase in obesity among teenagers and adults in this country (as in others). It is not something to be taken lightly: developing healthy habits at an early age can lead to a lifetime of good health.

We should avoid lying on the couch for long periods of time and go out to exercise (with friends); fill the refrigerator with healthy snacks and try not to consume junk food. There are many small actions that can help ensure you stay as healthy as possible.
Very often, these changes can be introduced gradually, not abruptly. If something requires a great sacrifice, the measures to achieve these changes can be taken slowly.

These healthy habits include:

  • Get enough sleep.
  • Consume healthy foods and limit junk food and soft drinks.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Develop healthy strategies to manage stress.
  • Enjoy social interactions and time alone.
